Scoodie with Pockets

Scoodie with Pockets:

Things to note:
• This is my first time writing a pattern. I also didn’t pay exact attention to counting my stitches while tweaking the hood, but I counted them as I wrote the pattern and the numbers are kind of funny… so make of it what you will. The final product is great though, so I’m not complaining. Those experienced crocheters out there, I’d appreciate any pointers on clarifying steps! Please pm if you have questions.
• I got the basic design from:http://claresaddictedtoyarn.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-c...
• There is the SCARF, the HOOD, the HOOD EDGING, FINAL EDGING and the POCKETS. I tried to keep them all well labeled in the directions.
• The entire pattern is BLO (except for the first row edging on the hood and the edging on the pockets).
• I made the scarf w/ pockets to fit a teenager with an arm span of 68 inches. Adjust the pattern to suit your needs.

My color changes:
The Scarf:
Rows 4-5 Soft Navy, Row 6 White
The Hood:
Rows 3 White. Row 4-5 Soft Navy
Everything else: Heather Grey
Terms (American):
Ch: Chain
Fhdc: Foundation half double crochet (aka: chainless half double crochet)
Hdc: Half double crochet
Blo: Back loop only
Sl: Slip stitch
Sc: Single crochet
Esc: Extended single crochet
Hdc2tog: Half double crochet two together
The scarf:
Row 1: work 240 fhdc (do not count the starting ch 3). I marked every 10 stitches (later I kept only the markers at 20, 40, 100, 120, 140, 200, and 220 – and you’ll see why when we get there), ch 2 and turn.
Row 2: work 1 hdc into the blo of the next hdc and every hdc to end, work 1 hdc into the top of the ch 3, ch 2 and turn
Rows 3-6: work 1 hdc into the blo of the next hdc and every hdc to end, work 1 hdc into the top of the ch 2, ch 2 and turn
Row 7: work 1 hdc into the blo of the next hdc and every hdc to end, work 1 hdc into the top of the ch 2, fasten off.
The hood:
Row 1: Center the scarf (between stitch marker 120 & 121) and count 20 stitches out on both sides and mark them (stitch markers 100 & 140 respectively). Attach yarn at one end (stitch marker #140) so that you work the opposite direction of the previous row. Ch3, hdc in blo. (40 stitches – count the CH3). Ch 2 and turn. NOTE: if you don’t want to do the hood edging that I do after this, start your hood further out – I’d recommend at stitch markers 90 and 150 respectively.
Rows 2-25: hdc into the blo of the next hdc and every hdc to end, work 1 hdc into the top of the ch 2, ch 2 and turn.
Row 26: Seaming the hood. Do not ch 2 at end of Row 25. Instead, fold scarf/hood in half. sl stitch the ends of previous row together. Hdc into front stitch and sl stitch into the corresponding back side stitch to join the work. Fasten off. (about 19 hdc/sl stitches).
Hood edging:
Row 1: With wrong side facing you (the inside of the hood). Attach yarn to the stitch on the scarf just outside where the hood starts (stitch #141 on the scarf).
2 sc in first row of hood, 1 sc in second row. Repeat to 9 times (11 stitches). 1 esc in Row 8, 2 esc in Row 9. Repeat to until you reach Row 8 on the other side of the hood (55 stitches). 2 sc in row 7, 1 sc in row 6. Repeatto 9 times to Row 1 (11 stitches). Sl stitch into the scarf back loop (stitch #99 on the scarf). Ch 1. Turn. (77 stitches + 2 Sl stitches total)
Row 2: Sl stitch into next stitch on scarf (stitch #98). 12 sc blo, 55 esc blo, 12 sc blo, sl stitch into the scarf (stitch #141 on the scarf). Ch 1 and turn. (78 stitches)
Rows 3: Sl stitch into next stitch on scarf (stitch #142 on scarf), 12 sc blo, 12 hdc blo, hdc2tog blo, 28 hdc blo, hdc2tog blo, 12 hdc blo, 12 sc blo, sl stitch into scarf (#97 on the scarf). (78 stitches)
Row 4: Sl stitch into next stitch on scarf (stitch #96) 12 sc blo, 11 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 28 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 11 hdc blo, 12 sc blo, sl stitch into scarf (stitch #143), ch 1 and turn. (76 stitches)
Row 5: Sl stitch into next stitch on scarf (stitch #144), 11 sc blo, 11 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 28 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 11 hdc blo, 11 sc blo, sl stitch into scarf (stitch #95), ch 1 and turn. (74 stitches)
Row 6: Sl stitch into next stitch on scarf (stitch #94), 10 Sc blo, 11 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 28 hdc2tog blo, 11 hdc blo, 10 sc blo, sl stitch into scarf (stitch #145), fasten off. (72 stitches).
Final edging: Attach yarn to end of row 7 on the scarf.
Row 8: Ch 3, hdc blo to where the hood meets the scarf, sl stitch into corner, 8 sc blo up the hood, 12 hdc blo, hdc2tog blo, 28 hdc blo, hdc2tog blo, 12 hdc blo, 8 sc blo, sl stitch into corner, hdc to end of scarf row, ch 2 and turn.
Rows 9: Hdc blo to where the hood meets the scarf, sl stitch into corner, 7 sc blo, 11 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 28 hdc blo, hdc2tog, 11 hdc blo, 7 sc blo, sl stitch into corner, hdc blo to end of scarf. Fasten off.
Pockets:
Edging (opt): I edged the ends of the scarf with hdc alternating between 1 and 2 stitches across. (about 12-14 stitches each end).
Fold scarf ends to fit the size of pockets you want (I folded the ends after the first 20 stitches). Seam the ends with a slip stitch. Fasten off.
Weave in all the yarn tails. Enjoy!

  1. I don't see a Row 7 in this pattern, but it states to attach yarn to end of row 7 on the scarf. What would be the directions for Row 7? Thank you.

  2. Hello! Thanks for asking!
What you're trying to accomplish is making an edging that looks like it's part of the base scarf (while it also goes up over the hood section). Does that make sense?
The final edging runs along the top edge of the scarf (the part attached to the hood), it goes up over the hood, and all the way to the other edge of the scarf. Then you turn your work and work back along the scarf/hood. The "End of Row 7" is at the end of the base scarf you made to start the project.

Here are the instructions copied from above:

Row 7 (from the scarf section): work 1 hdc into the blo of the next hdc and every hdc to end, work 1 hdc into the top of the ch 2, fasten off.

Final edging: Attach yarn to end of row 7 on the scarf.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further clarification. And thanks for checking out the pattern!
